The importance of having a proper legal Will
You may think that a Will is unnecessary, but making a Will is the only way to make sure that your family and friends, and the causes close to your heart, receive what you think and hope they should receive from your estate. Remember, too, that a gift to charity is tax-free and may consequently reduce the overall tax burden on your estate.
The importance of Legacies to Leeds Jewish Welfare Board
For the past century, the Board has touched the lives of many thousands of Jewish people of all generations, Demographic changes, for example an ageing population and the fact that people are living longer, mean that in the future even more of us will look to the Welfare Board for practical support and expert advice in times of distress.
In order to continue its work we have to ask the Jewish Community for financial support so that we can sustain the high levels of care provision across our wide variety of resources. With the ever-increasing costs of providing these services, together with the decline in statutory funding from the Government, the Community’s support is increasingly vital in enabling us to provide our Community with a service as and when they need us.
Leaving a legacy to Leeds Jewish Welfare Board ensures that we can continue to provide quality services to elderly people, blind and visually impaired people, people with mental health problems, people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, Holocaust survivors and people with physical disabilities.
How you can leave a gift to Leeds Jewish Welfare Board
A gift in your Will, whether large or small, is deeply appreciated and helps immensely to improve the quality of life for so many frail and vulnerable members of our Community.
There are three ways in which you can leave a gift to Leeds Jewish Welfare Board:
Residuary
A Residuary legacy is the gift of the residue or balance of the value of your estate or a percentage of the residue or balance of the value of your estate, once your debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and other legacies have been paid. Generally, this kind of gift is of the greatest benefit to us as its value increases in line with the value of your estate.
Pecuniary
This is a specified sum of money, decided when the will or codicil is written.
Specific
When a particular item of value is left for the Board, this is a specific legacy. This includes stocks and shares, proceeds of a life assurance policy, property, furniture or jewellery.
