OUR PROJECTS HELP 1 in 3 MEMBERS OF THE LEEDS JEWISH COMMUNITY...
THIS IS JUST ONE OF THEIR STORIES:
I am writing to tell you about how Leeds Jewish Welfare Board touched my life and helped me to start living again. Two years ago I was a normal member of the Community, working hard, married with a young family and with a very fortunate lifestyle where we didn’t want for anything. However, things in my life started to change. I remember feeling anxious all the time and very low, not wanting to do things or socialise with people. Not even my childrens’ laughter could help lift these feelings. Nothing but nothing was lifting this debilitating anxiety and feeling of depression.
After my attempts at private treatment failed I reached a very low point. I was tearful, desperate and I could not see a way out of my debilitating illness. My wife was beside herself as she was trying to look after our two young children whilst knowing that I urgently needed help. My state of mind was becoming dangerous and unstable and my wife felt that time was running out.
Relief came to us in the form of a friend who told us that Leeds Jewish Welfare Board could help us free of charge and their services were open to everyone in our Community. I knew about LJWB but didn’t believe that anybody could help me and my family. Not only have they turned my life around, I’ve since discovered that LJWB cares, in some way, for over 30% of the Jewish Community in Leeds.
My wife made the initial phone call to the Neshama (Mental Health) team and was treated with calm, understanding and reassurance and was advised that Leeds Jewish Welfare Board could help us. Within two hours a social worker arrived at the house and I was finally able to vent my frustration and my desperation.
From then on, we were never alone. My social worker worked closely with a team of mental health professionals and provided us with the tools to aid my recovery.
They have been working with me for more than a year now and I finally feel that I am making progress. They have listened and have helped in every way they possibly can.
Without Leeds Jewish Welfare Board I can honestly say that I don’t think I would be here today to tell my story.
LJWB is an essential resource that we are very privileged to have in our Community. Without the generous donations of people like you, there wouldn’t have been anyone to answer my desperate call and that of 2,000 other people like me. Without them, I don’t know what path my life would have taken.
Please help the Leeds Jewish Welfare Board to continue its great work.
