Making a New Life:

Holocaust Survivors in Yorkshire consists of a collection of oral testimony of HSFA members’ experiences, together with photographs and documents, stored in the Special Collections of the Brotherton Library of the University of Leeds where it is accessible to researchers.

Building Bridges:

A Heritage Lottery Funded Project, providing teachers of Key Stage 3 History, Citizenship and RE curricula with an educational DVD to enrich Holocaust knowledge, based on 93 digital stories focusing on members’ experiences. A portable exhibition makes material available to the public. The project seeks to build a bridge between Holocaust survivors and today’s young students.

Campaign! Make an Impact:

A collaboration with the British Library has enabled our organisation to undertake in-depth work with secondary schools using information about the Holocaust, Students interviewed survivors and studied archive and photographic material before planning their own campaign based on the techniques learned.

Holocaust Education for Educators:

A further Heritage Lottery Funded Project commenced in July 2009 with its main focus being the launch of a website detailing members’ experiences, aimed at teachers and students as well as organisations including the Police and H.M. Prisons. Survivors have been filmed for inclusion on the site and foundations are being laid for future programmes promoting tolerance and diversity. We are building stronger links with like-minded organisations to ensure the valuable lessons will not be forgotten.

“What hurts the victim the most is not the cruelty of the oppressor, but the silence of the bystander.”
