Come Dine at Mine is a Community Success

On Friday 9th September approximately 200 people across North Leeds took part in Leeds Jewish Welfare Board’s first Come Dine at Mine Community Shabbat dinner.

The event has been a tremendous success bringing together people from all areas of the community on one night.

Thirty guests attended a ‘Come Dine at Mine’ dinner with guest speaker, at The Lubavitch Centre, organised by Rabbi Kleiman. “It was a fantastic event, unifying the community and ticking so many boxes. Young people had Shabbat dinner together, raising money for a good cause at the same time”, commented Rabbi Kleiman. “LJWB should be congratulated”.

So far, an incredible sum of approximately £1700 has been raised with many more people are hosting Come Dine at Mine dinners on alternative dates.  The committee are hoping that in turn a significant amount more will be raised for The Rainbow Project’s Community Services.

The Rainbow Project supports Jewish adults with learning disabilities to live their lives with dignity and participate in the local Jewish and wider Community. The Rainbow service prides itself on empowering people and helping them work towards a more rewarding, fulfilling and independent way of life. This is achieved via staff support as well as social, educational and recreational facilities.

Goody bags provided hosts with blue candles and napkins, a booklet of shabbat songs and recipes, sponsored by various local businesses, and discount vouchers provided by The Kosherie.

Main event sponsor was Jay Jay Optics of Leeds and all hosts were entered into a raffle with a fantastic prize of DBB having been donated by Wood Hall Hotel. Winners are Ayala & Steve Graham.

This is the first event of its kind in Leeds and LJWB hope to continue its success next year.
