Leeds Jewish Blind Society
Improving the quality of life, for people with visual and hearing impairments.
Leeds Jewish Blind Society works on behalf of sight impaired people within our Community. We offer social care support and advice for people who are struggling with visual problems together with access to helpful equipment. We organise monthly socials with afternoon tea and varied entertainment, outings to the theatre and trips to Harrogate Synagogue with lunch and entertainment provided.
The Jewish Telegraph newspaper (LISTEN) is recorded on to tape by a group of volunteers and is distributed to sight impaired listeners. We also have a library of talking books for people to enjoy,
Many of our clients have both visual and hearing impairments.
We have regular contact with Centenary House, which is The Centre for Deaf and Blind People in Leeds, where we can access useful equipment (loop systems etc) for clients with hearing impairment.
‘There are many more visually impaired people living within the City who do not have the knowledge of our existence.
Even if someone is not registered blind or partially sighted but has visual or hearing problems, it may well be worth contacting me for some support or advice.’Disability & Sensory Services Co-ordinator
‘Losing one’s sight and/or hearing can be devastating. I want to make sure that people have the benefits and services they are entitled to’.
