Animals are the subject of Humorous Picture Competition

Members of the HUB art class at the Marjorie & Arnold Ziff Community Centre took part in the 6th annual ‘Humorous Picture Competition’, in memory of the late Maurice Samuel.

Maurice was an active member of the art class and had a keen interest in humorous pictures, always drawing and painting pictures on the funny side of life. Val Bell, Art Class tutor commented, "He liked paintings that were humorous and he was a great stickler for detail..he would sit there for ages until he got it just right"

The theme of this year's competiton was animals and class members submitted a wide range of pictures that included lambs, zebras, dogs, birds, hens and chimps.

First prize, was awarded to Leila Conway for her fantastic picture of Dog and Ball. Second prize went to Elana Morris's picture of love-birds titled Give me a Peck, whilst 3rd prize was collected by Philip Sheaf for his painting of three chimpanzees entitled Three tenors (or two Fivers and a Tenner!)

Betty, along with 5 family members, was on hand to present the prizes. Betty thanked the art class for supporting the competition and commented on the tough decision she had in choosing winners due to the high standard of entries.
